The further developed high voltage battery uses cylindrical cells of the sixth generation BMW eDrive technology for the first time. Compared with the previous prismatic Gen5 cells, these offer around 20 percent higher volumetric energy density, enabling more usable energy and an approximately 25 percent increase in charging performance. With an energy content of up to 112.5 kWh, the BMW i7 achieves a range of over 700 kilometres (WLTP). Currents of up to 630 amperes increase the maximum DC charging power from 195 kW to up to 250 kW, delivering full performance at both 800 volt and 400 volt High Power Charging stations. As a result, the BMW i7 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes.
