Bangkok. BMW Group Thailand is building upon its historic success in 2020 with further expansion of its line-up across all three brands. Coming hot on the heels of the company confirming its capture of the top spot in Thailand’s premium automotive segment, this second batch of 2021’s new arrivals, after the new BMW 5 Series launch in January, further reaffirms BMW Group Thailand’s strategic commitment to the Power of Choice with a breathtaking variety that runs from the pinnacle of luxury to a classic two-wheel cruiser.

Leading the charge for BMW on this occasion are the new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport, the first locally assembled variant of the ultra-luxurious Sports Activity Vehicle, and the new BMW 330Li M Sport, the first BMW 3 Series Gran Sedan model that will bring its expansive interior to delight Thai customers. MINI, meanwhile, is set on freshening up the premium compact segment with the new MINI Cooper S Countryman – which comes in both standard and Hightrim variants – while also delighting the sporty crowd with the new MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition – an amped-up take on the powerful and track-ready John Cooper Works model with sharpened aesthetics based on the limited-run GP variant.

For bikers, BMW Motorrad is doubling down on its venture into the cruiser segment with the new BMW R 18 Classic First Edition – a touring cruiser that embodies the soulful spirit of open-road journeys and builds on the original R 18’s iconic look.

Mr. Alexander Baraka, President, BMW Group Thailand, said, “BMW Group has always operated with a view to the future at every level. In 2020, we experienced a year that was truly extraordinary in many senses of the word, and this forward-looking mindset played a significant role in driving not only our digitalisation efforts in the face of a global challenge but also the absolute determination to address mobility needs of today and tomorrow through the Power of Choice.

“Of course, we very much remain on the forefront for the start of 2021 as we look to build upon our leadership in the Thai premium automotive segment with even more dynamism and style in our line-up. These new arrivals underscore the level of diversity in our model range – from the pinnacle of luxury and sporty elegance to racetrack thrills and joyous cruises. Furthermore, we will continue the transformation of customer experiences – a process that gained pace significantly in the past year and will expand in fascinating new ways, starting with the BMW Motorrad Tour Experience for BMW Motorrad owners to explore incredible destinations across the country throughout 2021.”

A BANNER YEAR: BMW GROUP THAILAND REFLECTS ON 2020’S MOMENTOUS MILESTONES.

Last year, BMW Group Thailand achieved a premium segment share of 51.2% with a total of 12,426 BMW and MINI deliveries, ultimately securing pole position in the segment. The premium segment share growth of 7.3% year-on-year is the highest growth rate within the BMW Group worldwide. Both brands significantly outperformed the overall passenger car market, which saw overall deliveries decline by 31%. BMW Motorrad, meanwhile, maintained its market performance with 1,224 deliveries in spite of challenging market conditions.

“Our leadership in the premium segment reflects the agility with which we have transformed ourselves in the face of unprecedented events as well as the continued dedication of our dealer partners in fulfilling the demands of our customers and the circumstances alike,” added Mr. Baraka. “With large parts of everyday life put on pause for months, we doubled down on the digitalisation efforts began in previous years and expanded them to two of the year’s traditionally biggest moments – the Bangkok International Motor Show 2020 and Thailand International Motor Expo 2020 – with virtual experiences on offer alongside physical displays and outstanding offers. Our own BMW Xpo also took steps to reduce the distance between the experience and our customers by bringing the event itself to venues across Bangkok.”

BMW Group’s global electrification drive also kept up the pace in Thailand as the arrival of the first all-electric MINI Cooper SE set the tone for four plug-in hybrid models across the 3 Series, 7 Series, X3, and X5 ranges. The ChargeNow network of public charging stations continued its expansion, reaching a total of 111 outlets available at 67 locations nationwide.

BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand was able to withstand the pressure of market conditions and disrupted supply chains to record a total of 32,052 BMW cars and BMW Motorrad motorcycles, up 0.3% from the previous year. This total covered 23,177 BMW cars – down 10% year-on-year – and 8,875 BMW Motorrad motorbikes – an increase of 43%. For export activities, BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand achieved a new record high with a total of 23,143 BMW cars and BMW Motorrad exported, representing 24% growth year-on-year. This included BMW car exports at 15,079 units, up 3%, whereas BMW Motorrad exports rose to 8,064 units, up 97%. With the addition of the new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport, Plant Rayong now assembles 17 models across BMW Group Thailand’s line-up – including five plug-in hybrids and nine motorcycles.

BMW Financial Services Thailand, meanwhile, bolstered its exceptional track record with yet another year of new highs as it approaches the upcoming 20th anniversary in 2021. The 16.77 billion baht in new business registered over the course of 2020 was a new record achieved amidst the uncertainty of COVID-19, while total portfolio value also set a new record at 50.5 billion baht. Its Freedom Choice offer, which presents superior flexibility in financing terms for customers, saw the number of contracts grow by 3 times, while digital experiences grew in breadth and depth with the addition of the Preference Finder service, Augmented Reality experiences for the BMW 3 Series and 2 Series, as well as joint virtual Motor Show and Motor Expo experiences with BMW Thailand.

NEW BMW, MINI AND BMW MOTORRAD VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS .

The new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport (CKD)

Price: THB 5,999,000 (VAT incl. with BSI Standard Package)

The new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport brings the state-of-the-art Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) to Thai shores for the first time in locally assembled form. Combining agility, lavish presence, and spaciousness in one vehicle, the largest member of the X family dominates the road with its excellent powertrain while retaining unparalleled comfort through its generous levels of space.

The new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport is powered by a 6-cylinder diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, producing up to 195 kW / 265 hp with a peak torque at 620 Nm at 2,000 – 2,500 rpm and a top speed of 227 km/h.  The powerful engine works in tandem with 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, adaptive 2-axle air suspension and the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system to provide the SAV with unrivalled ride comfort, excellent steering precision, powerful dynamics, and authoritative character. Meanwhile, the Executive Drive Pro chassis control system ensures supreme stability and incomparably dynamic handling.

The elegant characteristics of BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport are accentuated through BMW’s distinct and modern design language. The M Sport package brings an extra sporting aura to add to the car’s already commanding presence, while the M Sport exhaust system provides appropriately resonant notes to match its engaging combination of power and elegance. The package also comes with M Sport brake and M Sport leather steering wheel, both of which complete the vehicle’s attitude and personality.

The expansive exterior of the BMW X7 display harmonious proportions and high-impact presence with its large kidney grille and the innovative BMW Laserlight. Despite its domineering charisma, the new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport boasts an agile feel with its design precision, clearly structured surfaces, and athletic styling – which is further evident in the 22-inch BMW Individual light alloy wheels in Bicolour Y-spoke design.

With three rows of seating available to accommodate up to seven, each and every seat in the new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport is electrically adjustable to provide driver and passengers alike with optimal convenience. The BMW Individual upholstery in extended ‘Merino’ leather embodies the X7’s unique character, while the fine-wood trim in Fineline Black with metal effect high-gloss gives off a sense of authority and elegance inside the car. The interior elements in 'CraftedClarity' glass application further accentuate the elegant and luxurious feel along with the ambient lighting, a Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge, five-zone automatic air conditioning and rear seat entertainment Professional with two screens for rear passengers. The BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport also offers a generous boot capacity that can expand from 300 litres to 2,120 litres when folding the third or second row respectively, making the SAV a versatile ride for every occasion.

The BMW X7 comes equipped with a full range of state-of-the-art driver assistance systems for enhanced safety, such as Parking Assistant Plus and Driving Assistant as well as the latest infotainment and connectivity technologies like BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch Control Display, BMW ConnectedDrive and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with voice command, allowing each journey to be completely personalized.

A further illustration of BMW’s ongoing progress towards automated driving is provided by the Reversing Assistant, which forms part of the standard Parking Assistant and offers an unmatched level of convenience through automated reversing in confined spaces or situations with limited driver visibility. By storing the car’s steering movements as it moves forward at no more than 35 km/h, the system is able to reverse the vehicle for distances of up to 50 meters by steering it along exactly the same line it took forward as the driver operates only the accelerator and brake pedals. The recorded steering movements are retained over extended periods, enabling the car to back out of parking spaces that it drove forward into the previous day.

The new BMW X7 xDrive30d M Sport is now available in five colour variants – including Arctic Grey Brilliant Effect, Black Sapphire Metallic, Carbon Black Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, and Phytonic Blue.

The new BMW 330Li M Sport exudes the same dynamic design and agile handling with a stretched wheelbase that provides extra leg room for both the driver and passengers. The appearance of the new BMW 330Li M Sport still embodies the concept of the Ultimate Driving Machine but with a new design language, enhanced sporting prowess, improved driving dynamics, and trailblazing connectivity technology to better present the essence of the BMW brand. The unique BMW elements bear a more aggressive appearance with larger BMW kidney grill elements framed by a single surround and split up by wide bars that link to the visually smaller interpretation of LED headlights. The Hofmeister kink – BMW’s unique window frame that is integrated into the C-pillar, gives the rear doors a “freestanding” glass edge while horizontal lines and the slim, stylishly light units housing L-shaped LED taillights, along with the twin-pipe exhaust system, give the rear a wide and athletic stance.

The new MINI Cooper S Countryman Hightrim

Precisely refined design, attractive additions to the equipment range and innovative technology in the areas of operation and networking underpin the exceptional status of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman within the premium compact segment. Its robust vehicle concept and an ample, versatile interior with five fully-fledged seats make it an unmistakable all-round talent that inspires typical MINI enthusiasm not just in day-to-day traffic but also on long-distance trips and even when venturing into unsurfaced terrain.

The design of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman lends even more intense emphasis to the powerful charisma of the brand’s largest model. The new structure of the bumper covering, now entirely in body finish, ensures a particularly clear-cut and high-quality appearance. The redesigned radiator grille has the hexagonal contours that are typical of MINI and is surrounded by a slim, one-piece chrome frame. The radiator grille is characterised by a hexagonal grid pattern with a red “S” and a single chrome strut. The redesign of the front section adds LED headlamps with distinctive rounded contours, accentuated by a continuous band of light that takes on the function of both daytime driving light and turn indicator. The standard trim of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman also includes LED fog lights, with a light band in the upper semicircle of each fog light serving as a parking light.

With its redesigned bumper trim, the rear apron also contributes to the particularly powerful and contemporary look of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman. The upright rear lights with chrome frame provide an exclusive, unmistakable accentuation that evokes the origins of the British brand. All lighting functions now feature high-quality LED technology as standard, while the graphic structure of the light source traces the pattern of the Union Jack. The new MINI Cooper S Countryman Entry is fitted with 18-inch Pair Spoke alloy wheels in silver while the new MINI Cooper S Countryman Hightrim comes with 18-inch Black Pin Spoke wheels.

Powered by the 4-cylinder, 2-liter petrol engine, both variants generate up to 141 kW/192 hp and reaches a maximum torque of 280 Nm at 1,350 - 4,600 rpm. Stylish driving fun is guaranteed with the inclusion of an automatic 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch and, for the Hightrim version, gearshift paddles. The engine now includes an exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder head along with turbo charging. This ensures highly effective cooling of the exhaust gases and the turbocharging system. In addition, petrol engine direct injection operates at a maximum pressure that has been increased from 200 to 350 bar.

The new MINI Cooper S Countryman also combines versatile driving characteristics with a versatile interior. Three fully-fledged seats are available at the rear. Alternatively, the second row of seats can also be used to expand transport capacity. By folding down the rear seat with a 40 : 20 : 40 split, storage space can be extended from 450 to up to 1,390 litres. The interior is decked out in Piano Black interior surface, and an addition of Chrome Line for the Hightrim variant, while the MINI Excitement Package with MINI logo projection adds extra exclusivity to the new Countryman.

Inspired by the cockpit of a jet plane, the MINI Head-Up display projects key driving information such as the vehicle’s speed into the driver’s line of sight without obstructing the view of the road. The 8.8-inch touchscreen in the central instrument of both variants will also come equipped with MINI Connected, a personal assistant that supports you on the road with navigation and information supplied via connection with a smartphone for a greater convenience for every journey.

Both variants of the new MINI Cooper S Countryman will make their debuts online to bring MINI fans on a truly unexpected journey with the #MeAndMINI48Hours campaign – which will let customers experience an extended test drive and spend up to 48 hours getting to know the new MINI Cooper S Countryman. Introducing the second member of BMW Motorrad’s new model series for the cruiser segment, the new BMW R 18 Classic First Edition is a nostalgic touring bike that echoes the beginnings of the great touring cruiser models. While its sibling – the R 18 – is very purist in style, the R 18 Classic features a large windscreen, passenger seat, saddle bags, LED additional headlights and 16-inch front wheel.

The newly developed two-cylinder boxer engine remains at the heart of BMW Motorrad’s riding pleasure, including the R 18 Classic First Edition. Unparalleled power from this 1,802-cc big boxer boasts a peak output of 67 kW (91 hp) at 4,750 rpm, while maximum torque is 158 Nm at 3,000 rpm. From 2,000 to 4,000 rpm, over 150 Nm of torque is available at all times. The centrepiece of the suspension in the new R 18 Classic First Edition is a double-loop steel tube frame. A telescopic fork and a directly mounted central suspension strut with travel-dependent damping and adjustable spring preload ensure superior wheel control and attractive suspension comfort. The braking system consists of a twin disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear in conjunction with four-piston fixed callipers. The BMW R 18 Classic First Edition comes bearing wire-spoked wheels to complement its classic design.

The new BMW R 18 Classic First Edition is equipped with three standard riding modes – “Rain”, “Roll” and “Rock” – as the R18. The standard trim also includes lockable fuel filler cap, ASC (Automatic Stability Control, disengageable), engine drag torque control (MSR), and the Hill Start Control. Modern touches integrated smoothly into the R 18 Classic include innovations such as Keyless Ride, reverse gear, anti-theft alarm system, anti-hopping clutch and Dynamic Brake Control. The new BMW R 18 Classic First Edition also comes with electronic cruise control as standard.

The design of the R 18 Classic First Edition embodies the iconic purist style with stylistic elements such as the double-loop frame, the tear-drop tank, the open-running driveshaft and the pinstriped paintwork (ex-factory option). Classic elements are harmoniously blended with modern technologies like the analogue speedometer display and integrated indicator lamps that are “invisible” when not illuminated along with a newly developed, strikingly designed Adaptive LED headlight with daytime riding light and Headlight Pro system.

The historic roots of touring bikes are also echoed through exclusive equipment features in a Black Storm Metallic paint finish with white pinstriped paintwork along with numerous chrome surfaces, a metal “BMW” seat badge, and a “First Edition” chrome clasp on the side covers.
