BMW Thailand wins Product Innovation Award 2020 to underscore best-in-class capacity for innovation that satisfies consumer demands

Bangkok. BMW Thailand has reinforced its leadership in the premium automotive industry once again after securing the Product Innovation Award 2020 in the Lifestyle Product, Sport Activity Coupe (SAC) category through the legendary BMW X6. The Product Innovation Awards 2020 was organized by Business+ Magazine and the College of Management, Mahidol University as they sought to honor 32 most innovative products and services across 10 categories as recognized by the jury and voted by consumers as best-in-class in innovatively meeting consumer demands.

The Product Innovation Awards 2020 was held by Business+ Magazine, a subsidiary of ARIP Public Company Limited, in cooperation with the College of Management, Mahidol University. A panel of judges had compiled and selected products and services with outstanding innovation from 10 categories before entering the nominees into a consumer voting process to decide the winner for each of the 32 awards.

BMW Thailand was selected to receive the Product Innovation Award 2020 in the Lifestyle Product, Sport Activity Coupe (SAC) category in recognition of the BMW X6 xDrive30d M Sport, the latest addition to the brand’s SAC range. The new BMW X6 stands out with crisply expressive design language, which includes a large, single-frame and illuminated BMW kidney grille with “Iconic Glow” that is available for the very first time as standard equipment to add a striking and exclusive flourish to the exterior. The BMW X6 xDrive30d employs a six-cylinder in-line diesel with 195 kW/265 hp at 4,000 rpm, delivering maximum torque at 620 Nm at 2,000 – 2,500 rpm. Working in tandem with the eight-speed Sport Steptronic transmission, this engine powers the new BMW X6 to a 0-100 km/h time of 6.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 230 km/h. The new SAC also comes equipped with the latest generation of the BMW xDrive system.

The new BMW X6’s cockpit, complete with the new arrangement and design of the control elements, embodies a progressive re-interpretation of the driver focus for which BMW is renowned. Fresh from the addition of myriad new functions, the systems do an extremely effective job in enhancing comfort and safety. Standard specification for the new BMW X6 includes Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function. The Driving Assistant Professional with steering and lane control assistant with lane keeping assistant is also equipped to enhance safety and comfort, while BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is on hand to help the driver with extra convenience. The BMW Live Cockpit Professional in the new BMW X6 combines a new display and operating concept with unbeatable connectivity through a high-resolution instrument cluster and a Control Display, both with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches.

BMW Group Thailand 
BMW Group Thailand, a subsidiary of BMW AG, Germany, was established on the 3rd October 1998. The three entities of BMW Group Thailand are BMW (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for wholesales & marketing of BMW Group products, BMW Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for BMW and BMW Motorrad local production, and BMW Leasing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for financial services offerings to both wholesale and retail customers. 

In 2019, BMW Group Thailand recorded a stable performance with 12,954 BMW and MINI deliveries. The sales of MINI in Thailand achieved the highest growth rate across MINI’s global networks with 1,204 deliveries, growing by 15% year-on-year. BMW’s luxury segment also enjoyed remarkable results from sales volume of the BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, BMW X7, and BMW i8, recording double-digit growth at 39% year-on-year, while the BMW Premium Selection certified used car program grew by 16% year-on-year.   

On the production side, the BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand plant was founded on BMW Group’s strong belief in the growth potential of Asian markets and Thailand in particular with its unique location, strong manufacturing base, and ready supply of skilled automotive labor, being an automotive hub for ASEAN. On-going investment has been put into the expansion of plant Rayong in terms of assembling processes, aiming to meet growing customer demand. In addition, with approximately 4 billion Thai Baht representing the amount of annual purchasing in Thailand, the BMW Global Purchasing office has been established in Thailand. This is to source various components from local suppliers in Thailand and the broader ASEAN region, in order to supply the entire BMW production network of 31 production and assembly facilities, located in 15 countries worldwide. 

BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand produces the following 17 models: BMW 3 Series sedan, BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, BMW X1, BMW X3 and BMW X5. For BMW Motorrad, the BMW F 900 R, BMW F 900 XR, BMW F 750 GS, BMW F 850 GS, BMW F 850 GS Adventure, BMW R 1250 GS, BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, BMW S 1000 R, BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR are also locally assembled at the plant. In addition, BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand now assembles four BMW plug-in hybrid models; BMW 330e, BMW 530e, BMW X5 xDrive45e and BMW 745Le xDrive.
