ChargeNow partners, including BMW Group Thailand and the Fifth Element International, join forces with The Emporium The EmQuartier, expanding public charging stations network at the heart of Bangkok

Bangkok. ChargeNow partners, including BMW Group Thailand and the Fifth Element International Co., Ltd., recently joined hands with The Emporium The EmQuartier to bring 12 new ChargeNow outlets for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to The Emporium The EmQuartier – including free charging service starting today until 1 September 2020. This announcement will facilitate electric mobility adoption in Bangkok as part of ChargeNow’s initiative to proactively expand the network of public charging stations and sustainably drive the development of electric mobility in Thailand.
Mr. Alexander Baraka, President, BMW Group Thailand said, “Being a pioneer in sustainability and electric mobility has always been one of our ambitions at BMW Group Thailand. We have pushed forward the future of mobility, where sheer driving pleasure meets cutting-edge technologies and sustainability. The extension of public charging stations at The Emporium The EmQuartier is yet another milestone for the development and adoption of electric mobility in Thailand as we continue to make public charging outlets more accessible to electric vehicle owners across all brands and models in downtown Bangkok. With the recent launch of the BMW X3 xDrive30e M Sport as the latest PHEV model in our lineups, BMW is now offering the widest range of electrified vehicles in the Thai market with a total of 9 PHEV and BEV models. This continuing support for the nationwide expansion of ChargeNow represents the intensity of our commitment to bring about an electrified future that accommodates electric vehicles of all makes and models.”

Khun Suwajchai Ponsuwansiri, Director of Marketing and Business Development, The Fifth Element International Co., Ltd., said, “As a provider of charging stations for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids electric vehicles in Thailand, we are keen to deliver electric charging technology to Thai customers. The 12 new chargers; 6 available at the Emporium and another 6 available at the EmQuartier, are of European standard and can be used with any EV or PHEV models. Customers can enjoy their time in the shopping malls and rest assured that their vehicles are properly charged for the next journey.”
Starting in 2017, the ChargeNow public charging station network is a joint effort between BMW Group Thailand and partners – including the Fifth Element International Co., Ltd. – to sustainably drive the development and adoption of electric mobility in Thailand through ongoing support to the country’s charging infrastructure. ChargeNow partners are engaged in an ongoing collaboration to expand the network of public charging stations in response to the increasing demand for plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.
In Thailand, there are currently 141 charging outlets nationwide: ChargeNow stations offer 91 public charging outlets (expanding to 100 within 2020) at 63 locations, alongside 50 charging outlets at BMW authorized dealers.
Owners of plug-in hybrids and battery electric vehicles of any make or model can conveniently access ChargeNow charging stations in prime locations throughout Bangkok and major cities nationwide.

The BMW Group

BMW Group Thailand
BMW Group Thailand, a subsidiary of BMW AG, Germany, was established on the 3rd October 1998. The three entities of BMW Group Thailand are BMW (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for wholesales & marketing of BMW Group products, BMW Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for BMW and BMW Motorrad local production, and BMW Leasing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for financial services offerings to both wholesale and retail customers.
In 2019, BMW Group Thailand recorded a stable performance with 12,954 BMW and MINI deliveries. The sales of MINI in Thailand achieved the highest growth rate across MINI’s global networks with 1,204 deliveries, growing by 15% year-on-year. BMW’s luxury segment also enjoyed remarkable results from sales volume of the BMW 7 Series, BMW 8 Series, BMW X7, and BMW i8, recording double-digit growth at 39% year-on-year, while the BMW Premium Selection certified used car program grew by 16% year-on-year.
On the production side, the BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand plant was founded on BMW Group’s strong belief in the growth potential of Asian markets and Thailand in particular with its unique location, strong manufacturing base, and ready supply of skilled automotive labor, being an automotive hub for ASEAN. On-going investment has been put into the expansion of plant Rayong in terms of assembling processes, aiming to meet growing customer demand. In addition, with approximately 4 billion Thai Baht representing the amount of annual purchasing in Thailand, the BMW Global Purchasing office has been established in Thailand. This is to source various components from local suppliers in Thailand and the broader ASEAN region, in order to supply the entire BMW production network of 31 production and assembly facilities, located in 15 countries worldwide.
BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand produces the following 17 models: BMW 3 Series sedan, BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, BMW X1, BMW X3 and BMW X5. For BMW Motorrad, the BMW F 900 R, BMW F 900 XR, BMW F 750 GS, BMW F 850 GS, BMW F 850 GS Adventure, BMW R 1250 GS, BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, BMW S 1000 R, BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR are also locally assembled at the plant. In addition, BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand now assembles four BMW plug-in hybrid models; BMW 330e, BMW 530e, BMW X5 xDrive45e and BMW 745Le xDrive.
