BMW Xpo 2018 heats up Thai streets with thrilling new lineup – led by the All-New BMW X4

Bangkok. BMW Thailand is bringing its latest high-performance automotive innovations to the BMW Xpo 2018 at CentralWorld on September 6-9. The new arrivals range from the dynamic All-New BMW X4 xDrive20d M Sport, the open-top and futuristically electric BMW i8 Roadster, and the intense style and power of the BMW M2 Edition Black Shadow.
In addition to the full range of BMW models, the BMW Xpo 2018 will also showcase the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance, a preview of BMW’s largest Sports Activity Vehicle yet and an upcoming all-new take on luxury that offers a generously-sized, six-person interior with high-class materials, a state-of-the-art infotainment system brimming with connectivity, and a gracefully elegant and energetic exterior design. The Concept’s iPerformance badge denotes the presence of groundbreaking BMW eDrive technology allied with a BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine to create an exceptionally efficient and dynamic plug-in hybrid powertrain that excels in all driving situations – including running with zero local emissions.
“We are writing a new chapter in the success story of BMW Thailand with a new array of BMW vehicles that boast cutting-edge innovations, distinctive designs and track-worthy performance. BMW Xpo has always been a celebration of the latest and greatest that we have to offer, and we aim to build upon this legacy with a broader range of premium innovations and state-of-the-art connectivity technology for Thai motorists,” Mr. Christian Wiedmann, President, BMW Group Thailand said.
In addition to the updated vehicle lineup, the BMW Xpo 2018 will give another opportunity to appreciate the passion of BMW fans and 15 BMW owners such as Khun Kirakiat Yenmanoj, owner of the legendary green ‘Three Crowns Racing’ BMW, Khun Mongkol Tossakrai, a Thai professional footballer, and Khun Sarawut Porjit, a pilot who is truly passionate in BMW, as they share their inspirational #BMWstories and display their beloved BMW vehicles on September 8 from 16:00 hrs onwards at Square A, CentralWorld, where visitors will get to enjoy food trucks and many fun activities – including a mini concert from Pod Modern Dog.
The All-New BMW X4 makes its mark by delivering individuality, dynamism and innovation in far greater doses while placing its stance as the first ever Sports Activity Coupe in the mid-size class.
With greater emphasis on sportiness and expressive design, the exterior design of the
All-New BMW X4 is a picture of powerful agility and self-assured presence with increases in length (+81 mm), width (+37 mm) and wheelbase length (+54 mm) compared with the outgoing model. With extravagantly styled and dynamically stretched lines topped with the
M Sport aerodynamic package, the new Sports Activity Coupe adds an eye-catching athlete to the BMW X model family. The All-New BMW X4 is fitted with 19-inch M light alloy wheels Double-spoke style and a range of extensively upgraded and lighter chassis technology such as Performance Control, variable sport steering with Servotronic, Driving Assistant and adaptive M Sport suspension.
The All-New BMW X4 boasts a powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine that provides a power output of 140kW / 190hp with the highest torque of 400Nm at 1,750-2,500rpm catapulting the Sports Activity Coupe from a standstill to 100 km/h in 8 seconds at the top speed of 213 km/h. The All-New BMW X4 is equipped with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission operating alongside BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. The vehicle weighs lighter by up to 50 kilograms compared to the predecessor model, thanks to BMW EfficientLightweight measures. It also offers the most efficient aerodynamics in its segment with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.30.
The interior of the All-New BMW X4 gives the trademark blend of robustness and high-class elegance. Cockpit is designed clearly around the driver, in typical BMW fashion, with redesigned sports seats and knee pads. Sporting a panorama glass roof, the BMW X4 offers the ideal spaciousness and sporty ambience with M Sport leather multifunction steering wheel, Vernasca leather seats, Sensatec instrument panel and interior trim finishers in Aluminium Rhombicle with highlight trim finishers Pearl Chrome.
This latest member of the X family sports the latest version of the iDrive operating system, intelligent voice control along with BMW Gesture Control, and seamless connectivity through BMW ConnectedDrive as well as state-of-the-art driving assistance systems to enhance comfort and safety.
The BMW i8, the sports car of the future, returns to the spotlight in a new body variant – the new BMW i8 Roadster – which represents an innovative expression of freedom. The plug-in hybrid sports car features further developed BMW eDrive technology, enabling longer range and more time in pure-electric mode.
The new BMW i8 Roadster comes with a lithium-ion high-voltage battery with cell capacity enhanced from 20 to 34 Ah, while gross energy capacity rose from 7.1 to 11.6 kWh. The electric motor’s maximum output has been increased by 9 kW/12 hp to 105 kW/143 hp. Driving with the electric motor alone is possible at up to 105 km/h (previously 70 km/h), while pressing the eDrive button now pushes the pure-electric driving threshold up to 120 km/h. In the EU test cycle, the new BMW i8 Roadster achieves a maximum range of 53 km.
The three-cylinder petrol engine has an unchanged output of 170 kW/231 hp, working in tandem with the electric motor to propel the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.6 seconds. The BMW i8 Roadster is fitted as standard with 20-inch BMW i light allow wheels W-spoke style. The roadster concept is heightened by the signature carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) lightweight windscreen frame and the all-electric roof that opens and closes very quietly – at the touch of a button – in 15 seconds and while travelling at up to 50 km/h. Soft-top stows away in a space-saving perpendicular position, creating around 100 liters of additional storage space behind the seats.
Intelligent lightweight design and innovative production technology also play a key role in the construction of the soft-top. For example, aluminum elements connecting the roof mechanism with the body of the new BMW i8 Roadster are produced in a new 3D printing process. This manufacturing method for aluminum components breaks new ground in the automotive industry and allows the topologically optimized bracings to be produced in a geometric form, which would not be possible using conventional casting techniques and ensures an optimum balance between component rigidity and weight.
BMW ConnectedDrive comes fitted as standard for the new BMW i8 Roadster along with BMW Head-up Display, Navigation system Professional, BMW Display Key, Driving Assistant, BMW Laserlight and Acoustic pedestrian warning.
Racing technology and an expressive, high performance-oriented design help the BMW M2 achieve its exceptional position within the premium compact segment, and the new Edition Black Shadow variant boasts selected design features that further accentuate the top athlete’s powerful appearance. The new BMW M2 Edition Black Shadow is exclusively available in the exterior color Sapphire Black metallic. Furthermore, 19-inch, black matt forged light alloys with a Y-spoke design and mixed tires impressively underline the compact coupe’s looks.
The BMW M2 fascinates with precise handling and compelling forward thrust powered by M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine that works alongside the 7-speed M dual clutch transmission with Drivelogic providing the maximum power at 272kW / 370hp and maximum torque at 465Nm / 1,400-5,560rpm. The BMW M2 Edition Black Shadow sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.
These features are complemented by exterior mirrors in a carbon finish, the decorative grille for the M kidney and trim bars for the side panels in high-gloss black. With a rear diffuser in a carbon finish and black-chrome trims for the typical M double tailpipes, which are likewise integrated on both sides into the rear apron, the BMW M2 Coupe Edition Black Shadow represents a truly alluring, race-inspired package.
With the unveiling of the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance at the Auto China 2018 in Beijing, the BMW Group is not only pulling back the covers on a new model concept for the luxury segment, it is also introducing a whole new take on luxury for the BMW brand.
The front end of the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance is one of its most eye-catching angles, the vehicle’s height alone ensuring it rises prominently over the road. In an all-new interpretation of classical BMW elements, the front-end design groups together the various facets of the vehicle into a powerful visual statement. The large, vertical kidney grille at the heart of the upright front-end silhouette hogs the attention.
The luxurious character of the BMW Concept X7 iPerformance is brought alive by its cabin, in particular. The vehicle’s sheer size forms the basis for an interior experience unmatched by any BMW past or present. As a result of the interplay between precise, pared-down forms and an open sense of space, the driver and passengers find themselves immersed in a very modern setting with an equally exclusive feel. The wealth of possibilities offered by personalized, digital connectivity allows the vehicle’s interior to be turned, as desired, into a personalized place of either retreat or productivity.
