- BMW Group worldwide achieves a new all-time sales high with 2,463,526 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles sold, growing by 4.1%
- BMW Group Thailand deliveries increase 39% to a new record high of 11,030 BMW and MINI cars together
- BMW Thailand notches the highest growth rate across BMW’s global operations at 43%
Bangkok. BMW Group Thailand announced a historic sales record with 11,030 BMW and MINI vehicles delivered to customers from January to December 2017, an increase of 39% year-on-year and the first-ever 5-digit sales figure in the company’s history. These milestones have made 2017 the most successful 12-month period for all of BMW Group Thailand’s three business units – with BMW Thailand in particular posting the highest growth rate across BMW’s global network at 43% year-on-year.
On the global level, BMW Group remains the world’s number-one premium automotive company after recording the best-ever annual sales for the seventh year in succession in 2017, growing sales by 4.1% across the year to a total of 2,463,526 vehicles. This success was spread throughout the company with BMW and MINI brands achieving new all-time high figures with 2,088,283 BMW vehicles delivered, growing by 4.2% year-on-year and 371,881 MINI vehicle delivered to customers around the world, 3.2% higher than in 2016. BMW Motorrad achieves seventh all-time sales high in succession in 2017 with a total of 164,153 BMW motorcycles delivered worldwide, an increase of 13.2% on the previous year.
Mr. Stefan Teuchert, President, BMW Group Thailand, said “In 2017, we have once again achieved our targets across the three brands of BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad. In addition to the highest growth rate worldwide for BMW in Thailand, we also saw remarkable success with plug-in hybrid vehicle sales rising by 269% year-on-year, and it is a trend that we expect to continue in the foreseeable future thanks to consistently increasing demand. Likewise, BMW Group delivered more than 100,000 vehicles from the BMW i and BMW iPerformance range worldwide in the past calendar year, delivering yet another proof that our forward-looking technology is the right direction for motorists around the globe.”
A total of 10,020 BMW cars were delivered to Thai customers in 2017, a robust increase of 43% from the previous year and the highest growth recorded for the year across all of BMW’s global operations. The year drew to a close in fitting fashion with BMW Thailand also posting best-ever December numbers with 1,422 BMW cars delivered within the month.
MINI sales in Thailand rose by a healthy 11% year-on-year to reach 1,010 deliveries for 2017, while BMW Motorrad had its sixth consecutive year of double-digit growth with 2,001 motorcycles delivered in 2017 – up 10% from the previous year. Both brands joined BMW in setting end-of-year records with MINI delivering 168 cars for its best December since 2015 as BMW Motorrad reached a new high of over 300 deliveries in the same month.
2017: A year of unprecedented flexibility and unparalleled lifestyle privileges
In addition to record-breaking successes on the sales front, BMW Group Thailand also presented a new level of service flexibility to customers in 2017 with the first major revision of its BMW and MINI Service Inclusive program, which now offers tailored options that better match the differing needs of each individual customer while still providing the peace of mind that comes with certified, world-class services.
To round out the BMW ownership experience, BMW Group Thailand introduced “The Ultimate JOY Experience” to offer BMW owners exclusive access to incredible lifestyle, motoring, and sporting activities around the world – ranging from a challenging drive in the alpine conditions on a mountaintop in New Zealand to participation in a world-class footrace in the BMW Berlin Marathon.
“Both programs represent our definition of a premium mobility experience – one that goes beyond the drive with confidence on the road and excitement at the end of a journey,” added Mr. Teuchert. “Our customers can look forward to hearing more about the incredible experiences that we have lined up for 2018.”
BMW Group’s global leadership in electrified vehicles has also been reflected in BMW Group Thailand’s efforts to make plug-in hybrid vehicles more accessible to Thai motorists. In supporting the Thai launch of ChargeNow, the world’s largest network of public charging stations for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, BMW Group Thailand continues to lead the charge towards a more sustainable future for motoring.
“The growth of BMW Group Thailand in 2017 can be attributed to our relentless efforts to innovate and expand our vehicle range, service options, and ownership experience to better meet the demands of the modern motorist. With a strong collaboration within our dealership network, we continue to expand our businesses into new areas across the country and a strong vision for electrified vehicles, we are moving ahead with confidence to make 2018 yet another milestone year for our success,” said Mr. Teuchert.
BMW Financial Services Thailand
2017 was also an important year for BMW Financial Services Thailand following the introduction of BMW FREEDOM CHOICE – a new way for customers to access a BMW with guaranteed future value and a choice between full ownership or moving on to a new BMW at the end of the agreement.
“Strong collaboration between all entities within the BMW Group Thailand and our dealer network has led to another record year for us”, said Mr. Björn Antonsson, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Financial Services Thailand. “Our overall portfolio value reached an all-time high of 40.4 billion baht in 2017, and we are very much looking forward to keeping the momentum going in 2018 with game-changing innovations such as BMW FREEDOM CHOICE.”
BMW Group Thailand also continued its mission to bring clean water to the Thai people in need in the Care4Water initiative. A collaborative effort with our authorized BMW dealers and the US-based nonprofit organization Waves For Water, the Care4Water project seeks to elevate quality of life, enable a healthier way of living, and tackle health issues by providing communities in need with solutions that provide sustainable access to clean water. Participating communities also gained a deeper understanding of the benefits of clean water as well as expertise in installing and maintaining water filtration systems for long-term use.
Until end of 2017, BMW Group Thailand and dealers have rolled out more than 3,434 water filter systems to 38 communities in Thailand under the Care4Water initiative. One filter can provide 100 people with clean water every day. As a consequence, the company provided up to 343,400 Thai people with access to clean water at this point. Furthermore, volunteers from BMW Group Thailand visited the communities throughout the year to ensure a genuine positive impact on quality of life.
“This is our commitment as a dedicated corporate citizen of the Kingdom of Thailand,” Mr. Björn Antonsson concluded.
