BMW Group Thailand Appoints Mr. Uwe Quaas as New Managing Director of BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand

Rayong. BMW Group Thailand is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Uwe Quaas as Managing Director of BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand, effective 1st October 2018. Mr. Uwe replaces Mr. Jeffrey D. Gaudiano who has completed his tenure in Thailand and is taking up a new position as the Head of Steering Production, Production System, and Logistics at BMW Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina, the USA.

 

Mr. Uwe has been with the BMW Group since 2003, working first at Plant Regensburg then moving to Plant Leipzig, Plant Rosslyn and Plant Munich where he held high-level positions in the logistics, quality management and bodyshop departments. Prior to taking up his new position as managing director at BMW Manufacturing Group Thailand, Mr. Uwe headed up the department for overseas material supply in Plant Wackersdorf, which is responsible for supplying parts to various BMW production networks including BMW Motorrad worldwide.

 

Mr. Uwe said: “I love and live for our international BMW network. I firmly believe that we become bulletproof when we come together to work for the success of the BMW Group. This also includes our work at Plant Rayong in Thailand, a country which I admire both for its people and the welcome it offers to all who go there.”

 

In his new position, Mr. Uwe will be responsible for the overall BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand business activities, which assembles BMW automobiles and BMW motorcycles to supply to BMW Group Thailand for domestic sales, as well as export to other BMW subsidiaries in the region.

BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand in Rayong builds upon its milestones with technological expertise and competent human resources

 

BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand began its operations in 2000 and produces BMW automobiles and motorcycles under the same roof. The facility has a production area covering 255,000 square metres (approximately 2,744,000 sq. ft.) in the Amata City Industrial Estate, Rayong province. It currently has over 520 employees.

 

In 2017, BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand celebrated a 100,000-unit production milestone to mark yet another solid proof of the company’s commitment to Thailand’s luxury car market.As of October 2018, BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand produces 15 models as follows: BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, BMW X1 and BMW X5. For BMW Motorrad, the BMW F 800 R, BMW F 750 GS, BMW F 850 GS, BMW R 1200 GS, BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, BMW S 1000 R, BMW S 1000 RR and BMW S 1000 XR are also locally assembled at the plant. In addition, BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand now assembles four BMW plug-in hybrid models; BMW 330e, BMW 530e, BMW X5 xDrive40e and BMW 740Le. The advanced state-of-the-art machine technology, highly skilled workers and world-class production standards provide all the key ingredients to steer BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand towards success.

 

Furthermore, BMW Manufacturing Group Thailand has continued its investment in human resources with the Dual Excellence Program in partnership with local educational institutions including Chitralada Technology institute in Bangkok and the Thai-Austrian Technical College in Chonburi. The program was developed from the Sattahip Model and adjusted to match the company’s mission that aims to reinforce training in Automotive Mechatronics. Participating students will receive theoretical training in technical fundamentals at the College while gaining practical training from on-the-job training supported by cutting-edge technology. This will enable them to become skilled workers in the automotive industry while also reinforcing Thailand’s potential as a global automotive production hub.

BMW Group Thailand

 

BMW Group Thailand, a subsidiary of BMW AG, Germany, was established on the 3rd October 1998. The three entities of BMW Group Thailand include BMW (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for wholesales & marketing of BMW Group products, BMW Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for BMW and BMW Motorrad local production, and BMW Leasing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with responsibility for financial services offerings to both wholesale and retail customers.

 

Within the first 7 months of 2018, BMW Group Thailand achieved a historic sales record with 6,505 BMW and MINI vehicles delivered to customers, an increase of 12% year-on-year. BMW Motorrad also had the best-ever record with 1,094 motorcycle deliveries, 18% higher than the same period last year. These milestones have made the most successful 7-month period for BMW Group Thailand.

 

On the production side, the BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand plant was founded on BMW Group’s strong belief in the growth potential of Asian markets and Thailand in particular with its unique location, strong manufacturing base, and ready supply of skilled automotive labor, being an automotive hub for ASEAN.

 

On-going investment has been put into the expansion of plant Rayong in terms of assembling processes, aiming to meet growing customer demand. In addition, with approximately 4 billion Thai Baht representing the amount of annual purchasing in Thailand, the BMW Global Purchasing office has been established in Thailand. This is to source various components from local suppliers in Thailand and the broader ASEAN region, in order to supply the entire BMW production network of 30 production and assembly facilities, located in 14 countries worldwide.
