Mr. Jeffrey Gaudiano (4th left), was joined by Mr. Stefan Teuchert (6th left), President, BMW Group Thailand, in welcoming members of the press on a visit to BMW’s plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) assembly line at the BMW Group Manufacturing plant in Amata City Industrial Estate, Rayong province. H.E. Dr. Uttama Savanayana (5th left), Minister of Industry, was present as a guest of honor to celebrate the latest milestone in BMW Group Thailand’s commitment to a future of sustainability through eco-friendly automotive innovations.
BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand is the only BMW manufacturing facility worldwide to produce vehicles for all three brands – BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad. As a key BMW plant in ASEAN and Asia markets, the facility is now capable of assembling plug-in hybrid vehicles in Thailand, starting with the BMW 330e Luxury and BMW X5 xDrive40e M Sport – both of which combine the advantages of a combustion engine and an electric motor to enhance fuel consumption and open up the possibility of emission-free urban mobility.
“The operation of a BMW PHEV assembly line in Thailand marks yet another major step forward for BMW Group Thailand as we work towards the vision of a truly sustainable future. Furthermore, it reaffirms the important role that this plant plays in BMW Group’s operations, especially in the ASEAN region. We strongly believe that our plant in Rayong will continue to introduce new innovations and provide quality services for our customers and dealers while also building upon this success to achieve a sustainable future,” said Mr. Stefan Teuchert, President, BMW Group Thailand
Mr. Jeffrey Gaudiano, Managing Director and CEO, BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand, said, “The commitment, dedication and expertise of our employees have greatly contributed to the continuous growth of BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand, making the plant one of the most diversely capable manufacturing facility in BMW’s global network. In addition to being the only BMW plant to bring together all three brands under one roof, we have won the trust and confidence of our headquarters to expand our capability to cover the assembly of PHEVs such as the BMW 330e Luxury and BMW X5 xDrive40e M Sport. We believe that this expansion will bolster the foundations of Thailand’s automotive industry leadership in the region and drive the country towards greater sustainability.”
H.E. Dr. Uttama Savanayana, Minister of Industry, added, “The Ministry of Industry has worked closely with BMW Group Manufacturing Thailand over the years to support the
company’s business development efforts. It is a great pleasure for us to witness the
successful operation of the BMW plug-in hybrid assembly line in Thailand. We are very pleased to see BMW recognize the importance of sustainable growth in our country,
a sentiment that symbolizes the unity between public and private sectors in this undertaking.”
The BMW 330e Luxury and BMW X5 xDrive40e M Sport are plug-in hybrids powered by BMW iPerformance technology, which seamlessly combine the best characteristics of BMW vehicles and BMW i's electric mobility. The hybrid powertrain, comprising a combustion engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, eight-speed Steptronic transmission, and the BMW eDrive concept, gives the BMW 330e Luxury and BMW X5 xDrive40e M Sport intelligent energy management features that bring out the best from both the engine and the electric motor and enable zero-emission mobility. In addition to significantly improved efficiency, the two vehicles also deliver a dynamic driving experienced typical of hybrids, characterized by instantaneous power delivery to create a unique symbiosis of BMW driving pleasure and sustainability.
